I’m Sarah Murison, co-owner of Two Rose Cottages, a small but seriously comfortable Bed and Breakfast in Midhurst, West Sussex. Right in the centre of the South Downs National Park.
I have turned this little Victorian house into something very special – a country house in a cottage. I make sure my guests feel completely at home here, and that it is the perfect base for whatever they have come to Midhurst for – a wedding, perhaps, a work assignment, to take part in one of the many festivals and events around here, or perhaps just short break to enjoy the history, the art and the glorious countryside.
A little bit about me
I love the South Downs! Their history, ecology and many attractions and events are a joy that I love to share. I was born here, spent much of my childhood here, and am very happy to have returned, after a career as a United Nations staff member and consultant. I spent over 20 years based in the New York area, and lived and traveled all over the world, pretty much, so I know exactly how if feels to be away from home!
Before that I trained and worked as a Cordon Bleu cook for the President of Queens’ College in Cambridge (family cooking every day, as well as lots of formal entertaining) and was apprenticed as an interior decorator (designer). I also had a stint as a florist, and another as a Personal Assistant. All good experience for running a memorable bed and breakfast.
What you will find in this blog
In this blog you will find background information on the character and atmosphere of Midhurst and its surrounding South Downs National Park that may help you decide whether or not to visit, and where to stay. The focus is on what it feels like to be in this historic and lovely part of the world, close to all the amenities that it offers, so that your plans can be based on a little local knowledge.
There are also a few posts about Two Rose Cottages Bed and Breakfast itself, which may help you to know whether it could be the right place for you. And there is a section on Two Rose Recipes – the yummy dishes we serve our guests.
Midhurst and the South Downs National Park has so much to offer history lovers, countryside explorers, recreational shoppers (there are plenty of unique and interesting independent shops), and anyone who likes a huge range of choice when it comes to the enjoyment of eating and drinking. It is also centrally located for the very many specialist, sporting and tourist events and attractions in the area, which may well be the focus of your visit.
You will find information on each of these interests, from a range of angles. There are also some “stories” about things that I find interesting or important, so you can get to know me a little better as well.
